US Judge Allows Terrorist to Travel on Private Jet
CUBA, Jan 19, 2010. - Judge Kathleen Cardone, from El Paso, Texas, who will be trying terrorist Luis Posada Carriles next February, authorized him to use a private plane to fly to the trial.
Granma newspaper published a commentary on the issue in which the author describes as “incredible” the judge’s decision, whereas the U.S. government implements extreme measures against air travellers coming from 14 so-called terror-sponsor countries, among which Cuba has been arbitrarily and absurdly included.
Paradoxically, Posada’s attorneys requested the order to the judge claiming that their client can not use a commercial flight because he is classified as a terrorist, even though they had previously said before her that he had not been into any kind of terrorist activities, Granma states.
The article notes that the United States has an arsenal of laws and rules that ban the use of aircraft by terror “suspects”, while the government recently launched new measures under which thousands of travellers arriving in that country are submitted to more rigorous airport checking.
Granma explained that the news about Posada’s trip was posted by journalist Tracey Eaton on his blog ‘Along the Malecon’. According to Eaton, the former CIA agent will fly to El Paso on February 3 in a Hawker jet for eight passengers.
The aircraft belongs to Alberto Herreros who will pay for the transportation costs, the terrorist’s lawyers specified. Luis Posada Carriles is the confessed author of the mid-air blowing up of a Cubana de Aviacion airliner that caused the death of the crew and all passengers, a total of 73 people.
For the aforementioned crime and many others, Venezuela has requested Posada Carriles’s extradition; however, he continues to enjoy freedom in the United States where he is protected by that county’s authorities. (Cubaminrex - acn)
